Clouds and Prints

We've had some new and fun classes lately at 212! Linoleum Cut Printmaking, taught by Kristine Haddox, is well underway. Students have been learning to use different cutting tools to carve their designs into a soft linoleum block. These blocks can then be made into multiple prints, in black and white or color. Take a look at their progress below:

Our Landscape Series also continued this week with Valerie Mann's Clouds class. In this session, students spent the morning learning about clouds and how to paint them within a landscape. Students used watercolors and photos for reference as they sketched and painted the detail of the clouds. Here are some shots of their work:

Artist of the Month: Kathy Hiner

Stop by Two Twelve Arts Center to view the work of Kathy Hiner, our May and June Artist of the Month. Hiner's show, Explorations in Color and Texture, features her Yupo Paintings of various subjects. Formerly an elementary art teacher, Kathy has always worked loosely with vibrant colors with a concentration on the figure. Since recently focusing on the Yupo surface, she has added elements of texture by rolling, stamping, squirting, scraping and brush stroking expressive marks. Hiner's works capture a sense of movement, adding dimension and an emotional element.

Join us for an Artist's Reception on Friday, May 15, from 7-9pm. Meet the artist and enjoy some refreshments.

Kathy Hiner is also an instructor of Yupo Painting at Two Twelve. Take a look at some photos from her most recent class.
