During the Contemporary Still Life class with Jean Canavan, students had the opportunity to paint a different type of still life each week. Last week, students painted sweets! What a fun and colorful take on a still life. Take a look at the photos from the class below.

Beaded Kumihimo Necklace

The students in Kristine Haddox's Beaded Kumihimo Necklace class produced some lovely pieces! During this three-week class, students learned Kumihimo, the ancient Japanese art of cord braiding. Current Exhibits

Make sure you stop by the following new art exhibits around town. Here at Two Twelve Arts Center you can view the photography of Sandee Soloway. Sandee is our Artist of the Month during March and April, with her show "Witness." Sandee's photos are about humankind, what we have created and how it all fits in with the natural world around us. Mostly not pretty, but often powerful. These potent structures--from the dams along the Erie Canal to the formerly elegant buildings of Detroit on the down-swing--have a depth to them that the artist has enjoyed exploring.

Join us for an Artist's Reception on Friday, March 20, from 7-9pm. Meet the artist as you enjoy her work and some refreshments.

Another newly installed show in town is the Saline Painters Guild show, which is now on display at Carrigan Café. This show features work by a variety of local artists, in different painting mediums. From watercolor to oil, yupo painting to acrylic. Viewers will find a range of subjects and styles. Stop by the café at 107 S. Ann Arbor St., Saline, and enjoy a hot beverage as you view this show.

The Watercolor Series Continues!

As a part of our current brochure, the Two Twelve watercolor instructors have put together a series of classes to introduce students to various studies in watercolor. Watercolor Portrait with Valerie Mann was a success (you can read about it here), and students are currently enjoying Contemporary Still Life with Jean Canavan. Take a look at the photos from Contemporary Still Life below!

Next up in the series is Abstract Watercolors with Katherine Downie. Join Katherine and go non-traditional with a traditional medium. Katherine will be focusing on a loose, relaxed style of painting, while playing with color, shape, line, texture and form. These techniques can be used to influence your more realistic paintings. Katherine's Abstract class takes place March 18, 25 and April 1, from 9:30am-12pm.

The final offering of the series is Yupo Painting with Kathy Hiner. Yupo is a synthetic paper that allows the artist to experiment with watercolor and wipe away the aspects of the painting they want to change. Students will use a variety of fun tools and techniques to create abstract, landscape and still life paintings. Kathy's Yupo Painting class takes place April 15, 22 and 29, from 9:30am-12pm.

Call Two Twelve to register for these classes at 734-944-ARTS(2787).
