Landscape Series x 2!

This week we had two Landscape Series class offerings. On Tuesday, Val Mann taught Landscape Inspired by Canadian Painters. Students focused on a group of Canadian painters who worked at the end of the 1800s and early 1900s. Their depictions of the wild Canadian landscape were in contrast to the majority of landscape paintings being done at the time. Students were encouraged to 'see the light' within their landscapes as they painted. Take a look at their fantastic outcomes!

On Wednesday, Jean Canavan taught Wolf Kahn Inspired Landscape. Using contemporary painter Wolf Kahn as inspiration, students learned the basics of color relationships and composition while creating a painting of the landscape of their choice.  The unique color palettes really make these paintings pop! Take a look below.

The Landscape Series classes are inspiration for our Landscape Series Show this November. Students are encouraged to submit their work for the show, or take the classes for inspiration. Rob Kinsey's Dreamscapes class is the final class in the Landscape Series.  Dreamscapes will be held Wednesday, October 8, from 6:30-8:30pm or Wednesday, November 5, from 6:30-8:30pm. Call us at (734)944-ARTS to register.

Abstract Landscape

This Tuesday, Val Mann taught Abstract Landscape as a part of our Landscape Series. During this class, students discussed what it is about landscapes that captures our imaginations and how to compose a painting that conveys something more than 'grass, trees, sky'. Students began by creating landscapes using a ripped paper technique, and then moved on to painting on masonite board. Take a look at the photos from class below!

All of the students really enjoyed their "warm-up" creations made from ripped paper.

And here are some of the landscape paintings (some are complete, some are still in the works).

Be sure to check out our brochure here for more Landscape Series offerings. The Landscape Series classes are designed to inspire students for our upcoming Landscape Series Show in November.

September & October Artist of the Month: Ryan Stiner

Stop by Two Twelve during months of September and October to see the artwork of Ryan Stiner. "Settings" is an exhibit of paintings that provide a familiar stage and sense of scale working to capture both real and surreal images of the world around us.

Stiner says, "Choosing imagery that suggests that something is happening, while not over-defining what exactly it is, allows the viewer to overlay their own opinions and stories to identify with the artwork. This allows for a personal experience for both the artist and the audience."

Stop by to see Ryan's work, and don't miss the Artist's Reception on Friday, September 12, from 7 to 9pm.
