Happy Art Hour…And A Little Red Barn.

Last Wednesday's Happy Art Hour class, taught by Jean Canavan, was a full one! Some of the ladies attended the class to celebrate a birthday, while others enjoyed an evening of painting and refreshments just because. Students painted a country landscape with a little red barn, with the help of Jean's step-by-step instruction. All of the paintings turned out great! Each one was a little different, reflecting the style of the individual artist. Enjoy the photos from the class, and keep your eye out for more Happy Art Hour offerings in our upcoming Winter 2014 Brochure.

November & December Art at the Café: Mark Robson, "Lines, Light, & Life"

Don't miss out on November & December's Art at the Café, featuring the photography of Mark Robson. Mark's photography includes a variety of subjects, while he explores the shapes, paths, and spatial relationships created by lines; the color and shadow constructed by light; and the heart, hardships, and happiness that illustrate the connections of everyday life.
There will be an artist's reception at My Favorite Café in Saline on Saturday, November 16, from 4 to 6pm. Come meet Mark and buy a drink to thank the café for supporting the arts.

Some recent classes...

A couple of weeks ago, Robert Kinsey held an Encaustic class at Two Twelve. Students enjoyed playing and experimenting with this beeswax-based medium. They learned how to create texture by applying the wax in a variety of ways, and how to carve into the wax for a relief-type illustration. Looks like fun!

Our Happy Art Hour classes taught by Jean Canavan have also been very popular this fall. Students bring their own beverages and snacks, and paint a different subject each session. Jean guides her students from start to finish, giving them everything they need to leave with a completed painting. It's great to see how each student interprets the subject matter each week. Look out for more of these classes in our upcoming 2014 Winter Brochure.

First Presbyterian Church Communion Set

A few months ago, Jennie Clark, Reverend of the First Presbyterian Church in Saline, commissioned some of our Two Twelve Potters to create a communion set for a pastor visiting from South Africa.
Last week, our ceramic artists pulled their fired communion sets out of the kiln, and they all turned out beautifully! Reverend Clark had her choice of a few different sets, each unique and well crafted.
Reverend Jaco Bester will be taking a little piece of Saline and Two Twelve Arts Center back with him to South Africa. How cool is that? Check out the photos below of the lovely green communion set that was chosen as a gift for Reverend Bester.

Self Portrait Series Continued...

As you may remember, some of our popular featured classes this summer were a part of our Self Portrait Series. There was Self Portrait Simplified, Self Portrait Simplified Part 2, Andy Warhol Inspired Self Portrait, and more. The idea of this series is to inspire students to create their own self portraits. Ranging from Pop Art to representational, each class is designed for students to leave with a completed self portrait.

The classes were such a hit this summer that we added a few more to our Fall Brochure. Below are the photos from the recent offering of Self Portrait Simplified, taught by Jean Canavan, in which students focused on the style of Frida Kahlo and other early painters from the 20th century.

In addition, there are photos from a second offering of Andy Warhol Inspired Self Portrait, taught by Meghan Canavan. All of the self portraits turned out GREAT. Take a look!

Look out for some of these self portraits, along with others, as a part of our November Artist of the Month exhibit.

Didn't they turn out great??
