Beginning Weaving II: Wonderful Winter Scarf

Over the past six weeks, Holly Losee held the class Beginning Weaving II: Wonderful Winter Scarf at Two Twelve. A small, private class of one proved to be beneficial and yield fantastic results. Holly's student, Carol, finished her scarf during the final session last week-just in time to wear it for Michigan's first real winter weather this year. Carol's scarf was made of a wool and cotton/wool blend.

Throughout Beginning Weaving II, students learn to wind a warp, dress a table top loom, weave, and finish a scarf. This class is the perfect blend of creativity and precision. Students choose length, colors and pattern, and then set off to create a wonderful and wearable textile piece.

Here are some photos of Carol in action, and with her completed scarf.

Here is Carol with her finished scarf. Great work, Carol!

A Great Nonprofit

Around this time last year, I entered Two Twelve Arts Center (which is funded and supported by the Cowan Slavin Foundation) in a contest for the best nonprofit, and a chance to win some big bucks. It was a simple contest: the nonprofit with the most reviews wins the money. Unfortunately we didn't win, but we did get many lovely, kind, supportive reviews from our patrons, instructors and volunteers.

One of our friends and artists recently found the Cowan Slavin Foundation listed on the Great Nonprofits website, and we were once again reminded of all of these wonderful reviews (as well as some new reviews that were added this year). Although we didn't win the money, the folks here at Two Twelve feel like it is an honor just to be listed as one of the Great Nonprofits, and we sincerely appreciate all of the reviews left on the website. Not only do these reviews let the world know what Two Twelve Arts Center is all about, but they mean a great deal to us on a more personal level.

So thank you to the Cowan Slavin Foundation for supporting and allowing us to be a part of so many art-lovers' lives, and thank you to all of our friends and patrons for writing these reviews. Your kind words have made us feel loved, appreciated, supported and let us know that we are meeting our mission and impacting the community in a positive way.

Soap Making

Last week, Nancy Miller held a Soap Making class in the Two Twelve kitchen. This class is one of our 'Private Classes';  it's the perfect option for busy folks because it can be arranged to meet your schedule. In this class, students learn to make cold-process soap, and can choose from a variety of fragrances or go fragrance-free. Students bring home their own two pound batch of moisturizing soap. This soap is great to use in any season, and also makes an excellent gift.

Here are some photos from Nancy's latest class. It looks like fun to me!
