Houses of Art

Our second Art Escape offering, "House of Art," went off without a hitch on Tuesday. The full class, taught by Jean Canavan, enjoyed this mixed media project that is both artistic and functional. The students began with a house-shaped block of wood, and then used paint, fabric, decorative paper, stamps, and other collage items to create a mixed media masterpiece. Next, the students added either a small knob or a few nails to their house; perfect for hanging things like keys, necklaces, or bracelets. The final step was to add a hook on the back, and the houses were ready to hang as a functional piece of art. This project offered students the opportunity to express their own creative styles and tastes, with each house looking different than the next. As you can see in the following photos, all of the Houses of Art turned out great.

One student's House of Art, in progress. The stamp of a Picasso quote adds an inspirational touch.

Another great House of Art, in progress.

More finished Houses of Art--they all turned out so wonderful and unique!
